General

What is Scanfence?

Scanfence is a powerful QR code management platform with advanced geofencing capabilities. It allows you to create dynamic QR codes that can redirect users to different URLs based on their location, time of day, and other conditions. Perfect for field operations, marketing campaigns, and location-based services.

Unlike basic QR code generators, Scanfence offers dynamic QR codes with GPS geofencing, time-based routing rules, multi-location redirects, scan analytics, team collaboration features, and real-time tracking. Your QR codes remain the same while you can change the destination URLs anytime without reprinting.

Features

What are dynamic QR codes?

Dynamic QR codes allow you to change the destination URL without reprinting the code. You can update where the QR code points to at any time through our dashboard, track scans, and apply conditional routing rules based on location or time.

GPS geofencing creates virtual boundaries around physical locations. When someone scans your QR code within a geofenced area, they can be redirected to a specific URL. This is perfect for location-specific content, regional promotions, or field service operations.

Time-based routing allows your QR codes to redirect to different URLs based on the time of day, day of week, or specific date ranges. For example, redirect to a lunch menu during lunch hours and a dinner menu during evening hours, all from the same QR code.

Multi-location redirect lets you create a single QR code that automatically directs users to the nearest location from a list you provide. The system calculates distances and redirects users to the closest option – perfect for retail chains or service businesses with multiple locations.

You can set global scan limits on QR codes to create urgency (e.g., „First 100 scans get 20% off“). Once the limit is reached, the QR code can display a different message or URL. This is great for limited-time offers and exclusive promotions.

Your QR codes will continue to work if you exceed your monthly scan limit. We’ll notify you and recommend upgrading to a higher plan. We don’t automatically charge overage fee

QR Codes

Scanfence supports three types: (1) Standard QR codes with a simple URL, (2) Geofenced QR codes that redirect based on location and(3) Multi-location QR codes that find the nearest location. All of this codes can b dynamic and with time-based logic.

Technical

How does location detection work?

When someone scans a QR code, their browser provides GPS coordinates (with permission). We compare these coordinates against your geofence boundaries to determine routing. Location services must be enabled on the scanning device.

If location services are disabled or denied, the QR code will redirect to a default URL you specify, or show a message asking the user to enable location services.

No. Currently, QR codes use our standard redirect domain.

Support

How do I get support?

Basic plans receive email support with 48-hour response time. Starter plans get priority email support with 24-hour response. Professional plans include priority support with same-day response and dedicated account management.

You can cancel anytime through the billing portal. Your account remains active until the end of your billing period. All data is retained for 30 days after cancellation in case you want to reactivate.

Use Cases

What are common use cases for Scanfence?

Field service management, retail marketing campaigns, event management, restaurant menu systems, real estate listings, tourism and attractions, multi-location businesses, emergency response, asset tracking, and location-based promotions.

Absolutely! Create QR codes for table ordering with time-based menus (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Track which tables generate the most scans and analyze customer behavior patterns.

Field service companies can place QR codes on equipment or at job sites. When technicians scan them, they’re automatically redirected to service history, manuals, or work orders specific to that location. Track who accessed what equipment and when.

Security

Is my data secure?

Yes! All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use Supabase Database for secure database management with row-level security. Payment processing is handled by Stripe with PCI compliance. We never store credit card information.

Only authorized users in your organization can access analytics. Team members see data based on their assigned role and permissions. We never share your data with third parties.

While the QR codes themselves are public (anyone with the code can scan it), you can implement access controls on your destination URLs if needed. Future versions will include password-protected QR codes.
